October 31, 2011 by Daniel Ambrose · Leave a Comment

Lizzie asks…
fishing report?
i am looking for a goo web site to get a fishing report in beaufort sc

Daniel Ambrose answers:
Any charter operation in the area (Miss Judy is a good one) will generally post fishing reports. I will tell you this, I have fished that area (trolled) during the summer, your main catch is going to be huge barracuda, however the bottom fishing is generally real good over that way.

Nancy asks…
What do you call a report of how much fish is caught by a fishing vessel?
Does anyone know a technical term for a report of how much fish is caught by a fishing vessel? It’s not fishing report, or fisherman’s report, there must be a proper term…Thanks in advance!

Daniel Ambrose answers:
It’s called “The Take” !!!!

Betty asks…
How’s the fishing report from Seal Beach pier these days?
I’m planning on taking a few friends for their first time and was wondering how it was like out there right now.
Although we plan to be fishing late night, reports from any day are welcome! If it’s good during the day, we might switch plans and head out earlier

Daniel Ambrose answers:
I was there a couple of weeks ago. Went on Saturday night the sea was calm as could be. We were using squid and mackerel. The squid got NOTHING. We got a few bites on the mackerel. Pretty much though it was just fun to get out of the house. After 4 hours with 6 poles in the water we caught 1 spider crab thrown back. 1 skate thrown back 1 halibut too small thrown back and two small perch thrown back. We fished from around 6pm to 1130 pm off the back end of the pier behind Ruby’s.

Your Questions About Fishing Techniques Walleye
October 30, 2011 by Daniel Ambrose · Leave a Comment

George asks…
What are some tips for fishing musky and walleye in rivers?
I was wondering how I should fish for musky and pickerel (walleye) in RIVERS. Can anyone give me tips on technique, what bait to use, and where to fish them? Thank you so much!

Daniel Ambrose answers:
Well, for one, pickerel are Northern Pike, not Walleye. Huge difference. As for what to fish…Think big. Big swim baits, big spoons, big inline spinners. When I say big, I mean think no smaller than 4-5″ and as big as 7-8″ long baits. These are fish that get to be 40″+ fairly easily, and to get that big they have to eat large forage. Sometimes they also like big buzzbaits or traditional spinnerbaits as well. Also, make sure to have a good, strong leader on there. 30-40lb test braid or a steel leader is a safe bet to avoid them snapping your line, and those top water spinners will get some BIG strikes. Just don’t ask me to suggest colors for them, because I honestly don’t know.

James asks…
Walleye Fishing in Missouri?
I am wanting to do some walleye fishing in Missouri. I have never fished them before I am going to be fishing them in a river the current river to be exact…. Does anyone know of any good baits and good techniques for catching walleye.

Daniel Ambrose answers:
I’ve done some jigging for walleye with shad and worms, that worked pretty well. I have also used a variety of spinner bates which also worked well. But believe it or not, i caught the most walleye with the banjo minnow.

Joseph asks…
Best Walleye Techniques?
I was just wondering what different applications I could apply for walleye fishing. I will be fishing in several different situations.

Daniel Ambrose answers:
In the spring (spawn run) I like to bounce a jig and minnow. There are certain areas where a jig and crawler will outfish the minnow.
Later in the year I will troll several differnt kinds of lures, wally diver, pearl white jointed shad raps, shallow shad raps, Syclops, fat raps, and crawler harness.
I will also drift fish a crawler harness.
Casting I use a harness, wally diver, JSR, FR, MFR, Aglia, Hot N Tot, and Syclops.
In the fall I move up in size. I like to use the J13 and F13 as well as the larger wally divers.

Nancy asks…
Bicycle or fishing boat?
Alright, I’ll just go ahead and say the choices… A really nice bicycle or a fishing boat….
Now here is how / why I am choosing one of these….
Bicycle: I’m starting to exercise daily and I think a bicycle would be really fun to travel around my town while working out, I would also use it to exercise my dog… I would probably use it every day to every other day….
Fishing Boat: Fishing is probably my favorite hobby…. I go to the lake every saturday and every other sunday, and even a few days during the week… I would definitely be using it a lot, but not every day. The good thing about the boat is that it wouldn’t be just for my use, my dad and friends like to go fishing a lot and they would also advantage from it also…. What would you pick and why? Tough decision..

Daniel Ambrose answers:
Bicycle.

Fishing is an old man’s sport?
I’m a young guy and I happen to llike to fish alot. Mostly because it is a very relaxing hobby to do. Just sitting on the bank and think about nothign for the whole day. My friends however don’t hink so. They want to catch stuff and catch them quick and then they get frustrated when they don’t. They think that this is what old men do when they retire. Do you think fishing is an old person’s sport?

Daniel Ambrose answers:
No that is crazy. I am in my teen years and i am a girl, i love to go fishing. Your friends just don’t have enough patience.and i agree w/you when you say that fishing is relaxing because it is. You should keep fishing and if your friends ditch you then their not your real friends.

Your Questions About Flathead County

Charles asks…

Please give details as to exact steps to be taken to have 20 acres broken down to 5 acre plots.

Daniel Ambrose answers:

Thomas asks…
Teen girl, honor student, cheerleader about to have life ruined for accidentally leaving rifle in trunk of car?
Sixteen-year-old Demarie DeReu is an honor roll student, a member of the Columbia Falls (Montana) High School Student Council and a varsity cheerleader. Although she has no intent to break any rules or laws, or harm anyone, Demarie is at risk of having her college education derailed and maybe even being identified forever as a domestic terrorist.
Why? Demarie went hunting over Thanksgiving with family and friends. She forgot that her unloaded hunting rifle was cased and locked in the trunk of her car. When she arrived at school, she parked in the school parking lot because to park anywhere else is an expulsion offense at CFHS. Upon hearing that the “contraband dog” was to be working the school parking lot, Demarie remembered her unloaded hunting rifle secured in the trunk of her car AND she voluntarily informed school
officials.
Next monday, December 13, at 6 PM, Demarie will face her expulsion hearing before the local school board. She will possibly have her life derailed because a bunch of school idiots insist that she must be subject to an irrational, “zero tolerance” policy about guns in schools that does not countenance lack of bad intent. The theory that people with malice will be intimidated into good conduct if people without malice are punished in lieu of them is idiocy at its finest.
At the upcoming hearing, education officials will tell school board members that they have no choice – that state law and good gamesmanship require the school board to levy harsh and record-destroying punishment against Demarie. They will be wrong!
The controlling Montana law about this is 20-5-202, M.C.A. , which says about expulsion for bringing guns “to school,” “… the trustees may authorize the school administration to modify the requirement for expulsion of a student on a case-by-case basis.” Further, “to school” is not defined in 20-5-2-202, but is at 45-8-361, M.C.A. as “… in a school building.” Demarie’s hunting rifle was cased and locked in the trunk of her car in the parking lot, but not “in a school building.”
What can you do about this outrage?
Forward this message to every gun owner you know, in Flathead County, in Montana, or elsewhere.
Send messages to school officials and school board members. Use your own words and be
polite. Remember, they think they wear white hats, even if you don’t think so. It IS okay to say you feel very strongly about this, but no profanity and no name-calling, please.

Email suggestions. For your
emails, I suggest a Subject line of: “Free Demarie DeReu”
In addition to whatever else you recommend to administration and school board members, I suggest you include the following:
1) Demarie DeReu should be given no more than a verbal warning that she should not in the future pack her hunting rifle to school (I think she’s learned that by now);
2) Demarie DeReu should be given an award for being honest and volunteering to school officials about the unloaded and cased hunting rifle locked in the trunk of her car;
3) Demarie DeReu should be held out as an example to other students for her participation in essential wildlife management in Montana; and
4) That when the Legislature considers education funding in the upcoming legislative session, legislators will consider the outcome of this case as an example of
how schools are using taxpayer resources in Montana.
Thanks loads for your help with this.

Daniel Ambrose answers:
One of the biggest problems with our society is the number of people who try to outsmart their common sense. It has already caused a lot of unnecessary laws and a slew of zero-tolerance areas where unarmed victims can be easily shot with no chance of legally defending their self. This is why I make a concerted effort to avoid unarmed victim zones; to many people trying to outsmart their common sense have lead to too many of them.
Shoot straight and stay safe.
