Mark Your Questions About Sport Fishing Yachts

Mark asks…

Is Rugby really the #1 game in NZ?

I’m not talking about people watching it on the telly. Obviously with the high quality of first-class Rugby played in NZ it gets the most spectator interest, and it’s reinforced by the international success of NZ teams. But in terms of people playing it I would be highly surprised if it was the most popular sport.

I played it (and enjoyed it). But most people I knew didn’t. Especially in the suburbs and city. Many people played ‘touch rugby’ which can’t really be regarded as something contributing to Rugby Union proper. Far more people seemed to play other sports like Netball, Golf, Tennis, Soccer or Lawn Hockey. It didn’t sound right to me when someone said Rugby’s all NZ plays, perhaps in the countryside but not where most of NZ lives.

And while we’re highly successful at Rugby we’re also very successful at Yachting (which I don’t actually like) and Rowing and Netball. They might not get the interest Rugby does but that probably has as much to do with the very nature of Rugby being a spectator friendly game. I mean Horse racing also still gets and you’d hardly call that the #1 sport in NZ.

And then there’s the informal sports like Tramping/Hiking, angling/fishing, surfing, snowboarding, game hunting…

I refuse to believe it’s all NZ plays. Someone can feel free to prove if it is the most played game in NZ. Is Rugby really the #1 sport in NZ?
Guys I’m not certain if you see what I’m getting at here.

I’m not disputing that it hogs the media and public interest and that it’s pretty much our national pastime.

I’m responding to this NH idea that we’re succeed over them because ‘it’s all we play’. It’s not the ONLY sport we play and I’m pretty certain it’s not the most played sport.
LOL Bill P: I completely forgot about Rugby League! I wonder if these ignorant NH bigmouths know NZ’s currently world champs in that sport? or that we’re also world champs in Softball?
Hey Yo!
I’m pretty sure Rugby’s not actually the most played sport by a long shot. Can someone provide some stats?

Daniel A Your Questions About Sport Fishing Yachts

Daniel Ambrose answers:

Rugby Union has the highest participation rates amongst team sports in New Zealand across the age spectrum. Soccer only has the highest participation rates at high school level because of high female participation rates as well. Rugby still rules the roost with males at high school. Check the stats on that one.

The sport with the highest participation rates in New Zealand is actually Golf, by a very, very long way. New Zealand has more golf courses per head of capita than any other country in the world so I guess it makes sense aye?

I think that on the whole rugby is is overexposed and participation rates are clearly dropping on a year to year basis. What these statistics show is that rugby is far from the only sport played in New Zealand. We’re a pretty diverse little lot down here.

Also to the person who said that soccer is the most played sport without backing it up. Don’t do that, it makes you look ignorant.

Ruth Your Questions About Sport Fishing Yachts

Ruth asks…

Can you believe this story of greed regarding Scott Boras?

Yes it is an old story but I just found out about this.

Borad is tuly an asshole. A young boy was drowing and he wanted “thirty-five million” in order for him to save the child. he actually took out a contract and whited out “third baseman” and added “drowning child”. Here is the article released by Brushback.com.

EAST HAMPTON, NY–Scott Boras has long been known as a tough negotiator. That reputation was bolstered yesterday when the super agent demanded $35 million to rescue a small child drowning in the ocean near Boras’s home in East Hampton, New York.

The child, an eight-year-old named Danny Corgin, was swimming at a private beach when he was caught in the undertow and dragged away. As he flailed and cried for help, Boras relaxed on the deck of his luxury yacht.

“My grandson was swimming around when all of a sudden he was caught in a riptide and dragged out to sea,” said Ethel Corgin, the boy’s grandmother. “I didn’t know what to do. I started panicking. Then I saw that man relaxing on his yacht reading a book. So I asked for his help, and he just said ‘You want me to save a drowning child? Hmmm…that kind of thing will run you around 35 million.’ I tried to negotiate with him, but he was unwavering. I’ve never seen anyone so stubborn, greedy, and heartless in my life. What is he, a sports agent?”

Corgin said that she was struck by Boras’s casual demeanor, even as her grandson struggled to stay afloat in the vicious riptide.

“He was panicking, the poor thing. He thought he was going to drown,” she said. “I thought for sure that [Boras] would help but he really wanted that money. He said I could give him 10 million up front and sign a written guarantee to deliver the rest within a week. He had the contracts already made up. He just whited out ‘third baseman’ and added ‘drowning child.’”

In the end, a deal was not struck. Fortunately, a fishing boat came by and plucked young Danny out of the water before he could drown. Corgin was relieved, but still outraged over Boras’s refusal to rescue her grandson.

For his part, Boras explained that he was just exercising good business sense.

“How much is an eight-year old boy’s life worth?” asked Boras. “Can you really ever say ‘No, that’s too expensive. I’d rather just let the boy drown?’ No, of course not. I was shocked when Mrs. Corgin refused my offer to save the boy. If you’re not willing to shell out a few bucks to save the life of a child, you’ve got to take a long look in the mirror.”

While young Danny was drowning, Boras described his mood as “horrified” and denied Corgin ’s allegations that he was casually reading his book.

“I think she’s in denial or something,” said Boras. “It’s crazy to say that I was just causally looking on. I kept thinking how much I would love to save the boy, but Mrs. Corgin and I just couldn’t see eye to eye on compensation. I even acquiesced a little and told her to just give me 10 million up front, since the boy was dying and all. But she still refused. Talk about stubborn. She ought to be arrested for child neglect.”

Several baseball owners and general managers have had similar experiences with Boras. After learning about the East Hampton incident, a few came forward in support of Mrs. Corgin.

Arizona Diamondbacks GM Joe Garagiola, who haggled with Boras this year over the team’s number one draft pick, called the agent “a piece of shit.”

“That guy is a horrible asshole,” he said. “If I were that woman, Mrs. Corgin, I’d sue him for everything he has. How can you sit in your yacht and casually read a book while a young child is flailing in the water before you? He’s even worse than the Poston brothers. Sure, they’ve had a few people killed, but not children.”

While Boras’s actions have been deemed despicable by some, major league baseball players are flocking to him in record numbers. His aggressive, tough-nosed tactics have made his clients some of the most highly paid in the game.

“He refused to save a drowning child because his grandmother wouldn’t pay him 35 million?” asked Red Sox pitcher Derek Lowe, who is scheduled to be a free agent at the end of the year. “That’s sick. It’s cruel. It’s inhuman. He has absolutely no sense of decency or restraint. Anyone have his number?”

I honestly hate him. I hoe karma comes back and bites him in the ass.
BONUS QUESTION: Do you think there is something mentally wrong with Boras when he demanded ten million dollars for saving someone’s life?
to user 1: i agree with you. just sick

Your Questions About Fishing Techniques Walleye

Michael Your Questions About Fishing Techniques Walleye

Michael asks…

Fishing techniques and bait?

im planning on going fishing on Lake O’Dowd in shakopee minnesota this sunday and i need to know what kind of bait and “spray on scents” and fake baits are good at this time of year (early april) and what kind of technique i should use to catch fish off a peer/dock. there is sunny’s, crapies/panfish, bass, maybe some northerns and a few walleyes. and im using a spinning reel. im getting kinda tired of last summer when all i caught was little sunnys. im open to anything. what should i do/use?

Daniel A Your Questions About Fishing Techniques Walleye

Daniel Ambrose answers:

For sunnies, crappies, and panfish all you need is a couple good lures. Now if you are just dropping the bait in front of the panfish and not casting, i would recommend a pop eye jig. They come in sizes from 1/64 oz.-1/8 oz., and i have had decent success with them in early spring. I were using a reel filled with 8 lb. Test so i couldn’t really do nothing with the smallest ones, but i used the 1/16 oz. And have landed some bluegill & chubs. Here’s the exact color, size and brand that i use .. Http://www.troutmagnet.com/store/chartreuse-116-popeye-jig-p-137.html

For bass a lot of lures are to choose from, first off i would begin with a spinnerbait. Which is one of my favorite lures of all time. Get a willow/colorado bladed spinnerbait by Strike King in white or sexy shad and it will do fine. Look for 1/4 oz. Sizes which will catch all sizes of bass. Http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_73167____SearchResults The one in the display picture is what kind of blades i prefer. Another lure i would get would be the Cotton Cordell Super Spot. The 1/4 oz. Size in the color wounded shad is great in all conditions. Here it is – http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_73167____SearchResults

For Walleye, there is a crankbait by Cotton Cordell called the Wally Diver. It specifically is made for Walleye and should work well. Try the bright colors for walleye, http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_1860____SearchResults A good lure for the Pike would be the Daredevle 1/4 or 1/2 oz. In red & white pattern. Http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_2918____SearchResults

Here is Berkley Powerbait spray on attractant available in flavors aiming for crappie, walleye, trout, and bass. Http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_15982____SearchResults It ain’t too hard on the wallet, either.

If you wanna use baits, worms will catch sunny’s, crappies, panfish, walleyes and bass, and minnows will catch crappies, walleye, bass, and northerns.

Joseph Your Questions About Fishing Techniques Walleye

Joseph asks…

walleye fishing on shore?

What are the best ways to catch walleye on shore because i’m going to devils lake, ND during the summer and there’s a lot of rocks on shore. please give me some techniques, lures, and colors so i could get ready
some people were catching walleye instantly but they wouldn’t tell us what they were using

Daniel A Your Questions About Fishing Techniques Walleye

Daniel Ambrose answers:

Walleye are a lazy fish and are on the bottom or close to it so try getting a jig, minnow, worm and slowly reel in and jig it. Go slow relax and just keep trying the 3 p’s passion, persistance, and patience.
Use those and you will catch them.

Helen Your Questions About Fishing Techniques Walleye

Helen asks…

What are the best techniques for catching fish from the shore?

I will be fishing for native species such as walleye (pickerel,) bass, trout, muskie, sucker,perch, whatever will bite! Any ideas on how to better my chances with these species?
I am in northwestern ontario canada

Daniel A Your Questions About Fishing Techniques Walleye

Daniel Ambrose answers:

SEA wrote; the longer the rod, the longer cast you will make!.
~~This is not necessarily correct, you can have 2-Rods one being a 11-foot and the other a 10-foot Rod. The 10-foot Rod will cast further then the 11-foot Rod. The reason for this is, guide spacing and the butt guide, is either going to choke the line while it comes off the reel or if spaced for distance will not choke the line and cast further.~~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now for the question at hand.
I would pick walleye and advice for a Rod and Reel you feel comfortable with. Either Casting or Spinning, medium to light action Rod. These Rods will give you the best hook setting ability.
When it comes to ultra light the Rod doesn’t have the power to hook as the medium or light action, but offer tons of action once the fish is hooked.
When it comes to Reels one of the most important factor is the drag system. It must be smooth and allow easy setting. A drag setting should be for the line test that you will use, 10-lb test then set the drag for 10-lb test. The only time you would not set your drag to the same line test is when the line is Tournament for record fish. This line is designed to conform with all IGFA specifications, this type of line will break prior to reaching the line test advertised, to insure your record fish was caught at that line test.
8-lb test is a great choice to start with, for larger lures you will be using 14-20-lb test. And don’t forget to set the drag to the Reel line test.
Walleye bait rig; This is a very simple rig which consist of your monofilament line, lead weight, more then a couple of beads, small spinner blade, and hook. Tipped with minnow and fished slowly. Your rig will produces excellent results.
Pickerel bait rig; Spinner baits come in many colors but the most popular colors are yellow, chartreuse and white with silver or gold blades. For less $$$ bait and my choice is to tie on a spinner bait, start fishing the edge of the weed beds. This is a “wow” bait for Canadian pike there is no way you’ll go wrong.
You can also use the Rapala husky Jerk, rat-l-trap, smithwick rogue.
I’ve never met a Fishermen or women who came to catch only Fish, they come for the action and thrill and lets not forget the strike and fight.
Oh, don’t forget your camera, best of luck.
Joseph Your Questions About Flathead Catfish Fishing
Joseph asks…
how can i get some catfish minnows.?
im raising fish for a pond and i need to get some catfish minnows either channel or flathead weather i buy or catch them. please help.
Daniel A Your Questions About Flathead Catfish Fishing
Daniel Ambrose answers:
Years ago, when I was a kid, I actually had the good fortune to find a school of catfish fry swimming around in the shallows at a lake we were camping at. I used a fine net to scoop them into a cooler half full of water and my father helped me transport about a hundred of them to my favorite pond by my house. Within a year they had grown to the point that I was able catch them from time to time.
Barring you being able to stumble upon them like I did, you could try the supply houses that sell them to catfish farmers. Try your state dept. Of agriculture or local catfish farms.
You can try here… Check out this site.
Ken asks…
I fish in a lake that says fishing prohibited and got a question…?
I fished in this lake for the first time yesterday and caught 8 catfish around 5 pounds a piece and the species was flathead and channel and 2 largemouth bass and i didnt notice but there was 3 signs that said fishing prohibited and one that had the twra logo on it and its got a walking track around it by a subdivision and people i asked said people fish there sometimes but not alot so i was wondering if anyone can tell me if the lake is stocked by twra and thats why i caught so many or what and also why it says fishing prohibited?
Daniel A Your Questions About Flathead Catfish Fishing
Daniel Ambrose answers:
There could be any number of reasons a lake has signs that say that…it could be the fishery was pretty well wiped out and no fishing is allowed until stocks rebound naturally-or it could be the lake is part of a municipal water supply and they don’t want the water contaminated (especially by gas outboard motors)-or it could have been designated as some type of natural area/preserve-or something else…but ,after looking at the TWRA website I’m guessing it’s closed because they found contaminants in the fish there,on the website there’s a bunch of places listed where the fish had too much mercury,or PCBs and/or heavy metals.(The chart says 2008-but the link was on the homepage-I guess they don’t update yearly)
Look at a rod building forum for information. For simple guide repairs it’s not much work, but building you own rod is more involved. Building you own is not going to be a hugh money saver, but it is a great hobby that will give you a lot of satisfaction in your finished product as you use it.
